Mobile car detailing in Sunderland.
Twenty minutes up the coast and inside my free travel area. From Ashbrooke to Seaburn, I come to you.
Sunderland cars have a problem that inland cars don't, and most owners never find out what's causing it.
If you park within a mile or two of the seafront — Roker, Seaburn, Fulwell, the Hendon side — your car is being coated in airborne salt whether you drive to the coast or not. Salt is hygroscopic, which is a long way of saying it pulls moisture out of the air and holds it against your paint, your wheels and your brake hardware long after everything should have dried off.
That's why coastal cars tend to show orange iron specks in the lacquer earlier than they should, and why alloys here pit and discolour faster. It's also exactly the problem a ceramic coating is good at: the salt sits on the coating instead of the paint, and it rinses off rather than bonding on.

On the coast
Salt doesn't take the winter off.
Through winter the road salt and the sea air stack on top of each other, which is the worst combination a car faces all year in this part of the country.
You don't need anything exotic to deal with it. You need the contamination taken off properly a couple of times a year, a protective layer the salt can't bond through, and the car washed regularly enough that salt never sits on it for weeks. The Maintenance Club covers all three — once a month, all winter, without you having to think about it.
- Iron fallout removal and clay bar, not just a stronger shampoo
- Coatings rated pH 1–14, so salt and acid rain don't touch them
- Monthly visits from £50, with no travel charge in Sunderland

Does being near the coast actually make a difference?
It does, and it's the main reason I push protection harder here than inland. Airborne salt settles on the car even when you haven't driven near the front, and salt holds moisture against the paint, the wheels and the brake hardware instead of letting it dry off. It won't ruin a car overnight, but over a few winters it's the difference between paint that still looks right and paint that's gone flat and speckled with iron.
Is there a travel charge to Sunderland?
No. Sunderland is inside my free travel area, out as far as Washington and Houghton-le-Spring.
I park on the street near the seafront. Can you still do it?
Yes, as long as the car is somewhere I can get all the way round it and I can reach a tap and a socket. Street parking is normal for me. If access is genuinely tight, tell me when you book and we'll sort it out then rather than on the day.
Is a ceramic coating worth it on an older car?
Often yes, but the honest answer depends on the paint. If the lacquer is sound and the car is one you're keeping, a correction and a coating will transform it and then hold that for years. If the lacquer is already failing or thin, a coating won't fix that and I'll tell you so rather than take the booking.
