Hartlepool and Wynyard are two of my busiest areas, and between them they cover both ends of what I do.
Wynyard is where a lot of my coating and maintenance work comes from — newer cars, long driveways, owners who want the car kept right rather than rescued twice a year. Hartlepool itself is more of a mix, and a lot of it is cars that have been near salt water for years without anyone ever decontaminating the paint.
Both are inside my free travel area, so wherever you are between the Headland and Billingham, the price is the price.

Coastal cars
Seaton Carew is harder on paint than you'd think.
Anywhere this close to open water, salt is in the air all year, not just when the gritters are out. It settles on the car, holds moisture against the paint and the wheels, and works away at them quietly.
You can usually see it before you can feel it — tiny orange specks in the lacquer, particularly on white and silver cars, and alloys that have gone dull and slightly rough to the touch. That's embedded iron, and no amount of washing shifts it. It comes out chemically, and then a coating stops it getting back in.

Is there a travel charge to Hartlepool or Wynyard?
No. Both are inside my free travel area, along with Seaton Carew, Billingham, Wolviston and the villages in between.
Does being near the coast actually make a difference?
It does, and it's the main reason I push protection harder here than inland. Airborne salt settles on the car even when you haven't driven near the front, and salt holds moisture against the paint, the wheels and the brake hardware instead of letting it dry off. It won't ruin a car overnight, but over a few winters it's the difference between paint that still looks right and paint that's gone flat and speckled with iron.
My alloys have gone dull and rough. Can that be fixed?
Usually, yes, if it's contamination rather than damage. Embedded iron and brake dust come off chemically and the faces come back smooth, and coating them afterwards keeps them that way. If the lacquer on the wheel itself has failed and it's corroding underneath, that's a refurbishment job and I'll tell you so.
Do you do the Wynyard estate?
Regularly. A good proportion of my Maintenance Club members are in Wynyard, so I'm over there most weeks anyway.
